What it was worth
Quarterly payments over seven years based on metered or deemed heat output, rather than money off the installation. A typical air source heat pump earned several thousand pounds across the term.
Why it closed
Replaced by the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, which pays a lump sum off the quote instead of instalments over seven years. The change made the money visible at the point of purchase, which is what most households told the government they wanted.
