What it was worth
A generation tariff for every unit produced plus an export tariff for what went back to the grid, index-linked and guaranteed for twenty years. Early cohorts secured rates far above anything available since.
Why it closed
Solar panel costs fell so far that the subsidy was no longer judged necessary. Replaced by the Smart Export Guarantee, which obliges larger suppliers to pay for exported electricity but sets no floor on the rate.
